My Hit List for Chinese New Year in San Francisco

Chinese New Year is right around the corner (and Superbowl, too). But since I'm not a football fan (**yawn**), I'm releasing my top 3 places on where to get your cheap eats Chinese goodies and dimsum to welcome the Year of the Snake two weeks in advance:

1. Good Luck Dim Sum, Clement St., Chinatown 2
2. Mong Kok Bakery, Chinatown
3. Golden Gate Bakery, Chinatown

What do all these three places have in common? Long lines and cheap, delicious dimsum in a hole-in-the-wall establishment. Bring your plastic bags to take out those big boxes full of piping hot siomai, ha gao, dumplings, steam buns, egg tarts, etc. Happy eating!

Tip: How to re-heat dimsum at home if you don't have a steamer? In a big pot, fill it with 1-2 cups water. Put dimsum on a microwavable non-shallow bowl inside the pot- make sure the water does not get into the bowl. Cover pot and boil water for a few minutes. A steam bun will take more time to heat up so check regularly.
